Mindfulness in Teaching

1280

In our rush to reform education, we have forgotten a simple truth: reform will never be achieved by renewing appropriations, restructuring schools, rewriting curricula and revising texts if we continue to demean and dishearten the human resources called the teacher on whom so much depends’. (According to Palmer, 1998/2007, p. 4)

It is important that the teacher should practice mindfulness to work effectively, what is mindfulness? How many of us know about this term? During the training session with teachers, teachers shared their challenges, like during the class they also feel stressed and think about past events and many other things comes in mind, they too feel absent minded!  Then Mindfulness is being present in the current situation, which is very important for a happy classroom.

Some standard definitions:

‘Mindfulness is a particular state of consciousness that involves awareness and acceptance of whatever is happening in the current moment’.

‘Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one’s attention to experiences occurring in the present moment’.

One should have awareness about the present moment, this realization should come then easily one can practice and follow it in a day to day life. In order to bring positive learning environment in the schools, Mindfulness is a proven psychological process.
